Many of you are aware that I have been involved in Bike4Chai, a fundraising ride to support the work of Chai Lifeline, an amazing organization that supports families of sick children, attending to their myriad needs.
One of their most important projects is Camp Simcha, a magical place that allows sick kids to be just what they are … kids! They are given the opportunity to temporarily forget about their doctors and hospitals and tests and treatments (to whatever degree is medically appropriate) and just focus on having fun.
Last year my friend Dr. Fishel Strenger sent me the picture you see on the top of this page. This picture shows his grandson, Yissachar Mayer, enjoying a day of fun at Camp Simcha.
Yissachar was hoping to return to Camp SImcha this year. His parents, who so much appreciated all that Camp Simcha meant to Yissachar, were looking forward to having him attend once again. Sadly, it was not to be.
One of the bittersweet experiences of this special camp is the realization that not every story has a happy ending.
At the time of this writing, Yissachar's parents and siblings are sitting Shiva. After 2 and 1/2 years of battling brain cancer, Yissachar has returned his pure Neshomah to its Maker.
Yissachar's family, in their grief, have the comfort of knowing that they did everything they could to bring quality and meaning to every day of Yissachar's too brief life. Camp Simcha played an important role in that mission, and, with G-d's help, and YOUR help, will continue to do so for other children.
Although I am several months into this year's fundraising campaign, I have decided to start something new. I am starting this new page, dedicating it to seeking donations to Chai Lifeline, in memory of Yissachar Berish ben Elimelech Reuvein.
I hope you will help. It doesn’t matter whether you make a large donation or a small one; every gift to Chai Lifeline will enable them to do their essential work to provide a happy experience for sick kids.
Look at the smile on the face of that beautiful little boy. I am sure that his precious Neshomah (soul) in Heaven will smile on you as you participate in this great Mitzvah.
In the merit of supporting the holy work of Camp Simcha in Yissachar's memory, may you and your families, the kids of Camp Simcha, and all of us be blessed with the best of health and all that is good.
G-d Bless you!
Sincerely,
Yerachmiel Seplowitz
PS. (I would like to keep this page exclusively dedicated to donations in memory of Yissachar. If you were planning to make a different dedication when donating to Chai Lifeline, please do so at Bike4Chai.com/YSeplowitz)
