Before I go into the usual song and dance about my ride, I would like to briefly discuss why I am riding this year. I am riding this year for T.R. - my daughter Hava's best friend. Last year she was diagnosed with cancer and, after an arduous fight, is thankfully cancer free! T.R. had a large support team behind her the whole way. A large part of it was from Chai Lifeline. They helped with so many aspects of her journey. T.R. spent part of her summer as a camper at Camp Simcha where she met other young ladies who are going through similar issues. She developed some very tight friendships and, most importantly, had an amazing summer in the midst of her chemo treatment. Now that T.R. is cancer free (yay!), she is still going back this summer to enjoy and give strength to others just like her.
Chai Lifeline is a charity that is near and dear to my heart. Bike 4 Chai is the major fundraiser for Chai Lifeline. Chai Lifeline operates Camp Simcha and Camp Simcha Special- camps that provide much needed services to children with cancer and special needs. It is essentially a summer hospital with amenities that allow less-fortunate kids to be kids and to experience life outside of a hospital. Chai Lifeline is a leading international children's health support network, providing social, emotional, and financial assistance to children with life-threatening and lifelong illnesses and their families through a variety of year-round programs and services. It directly services thousands of families annually at no charge. Especially during the ongoing conflict in Israel, Chai Lifeline is there to help those in need. The heroic efforts of Chai Lifeline's employees and volunteers inspires me daily.
Once again, I hope to train like crazy so I can participate in Bike 4 Chai. Last year, I logged over 4,000 miles... I don't plan on slowing down! This summer we (it is a team effort with your help!) will bike up to Camp Simcha to the "world's greatest finish line." The tons of hours that I spend training are made worthwhile when I get to see the smiling campers being just that- campers with smiles, not children who are ill.
Please help me help the kids of Chai Lifeline.
Life for a child with cancer, disability, or other serious illness is grueling. From the moment of diagnosis, Chai Lifeline’s dedicated staff and volunteers are there to provide joy, hope, and unparalleled care throughout the turbulent medical journey.
On a personal level, I have seen Chai Lifeline's services in action for multiple friends and neighbors- not just caring for the patient but also for the family as a whole.
My objective is to raise $10,000, and I hope you will help me reach this goal. All donations are 100% tax-deductible.
